I’ll tell you a photography secret. Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve managed to capture some wonderful moments in strange places like, for example, shoved between parallel parked cars in Old Town, Alexandria, or in a frazzled parent’s patchy backyard lawn. In short, you don’t actually have to shoot in a “beautiful” location to create beautiful photos. But it does make things easier.
Last week I had the pleasure of shooting in one of the most beautiful locations in the DMV, Great Falls Park in Maryland. This place has perfect scenery for family and engagement photos, and for having a good time in general, especially during the spring and early summer. It’s located beside the Potomac River and C&O Canal, provides lots of outdoor entertainment like fishing, biking, and hiking, and it’s lush with natural beauty.
Adam and Alyssa have great taste for choosing this location for their engagement photographs – and for their hiking. There was hardly a photo in that didn’t look like it came straight out of Snow White. The lush greenery, the dappled sunlight through the trees, the flowers and soft mosses and the quiet river – I could go on and on.
Did I mention that it’s beautiful there?
I also loved what they chose to wear. As I was taking their photos I couldn’t help but imagine them on a sort of magical adventure together. Which, I suppose, isn’t so far from the truth!
To Adam and Alyssa, congratulations, and thank you for this opportunity to capture your love in such an utterly romantic setting! I couldn’t imagine a more perfect place to showcase the beauty of your engagement and your future together. May all your adventures be at least that magical.
